Baptisms, Weddings & Funerals
The church has always stood at the centre of the spiritual life of the community, and traditionally has a special role to play in the main transition points of life, especially birth, marriage and death.
Baptism is entry into the Christian community of faith, and so is more than a family celebration of a new life. Baptisms normally take place during the Family Service when the widest range of representatives of the child’s new family are present to welcome the new member. They are happy and exciting occasions. Normally children should be baptised in the church of the parish where they live or where their family worships, but it is possible to baptise others who have a connection with Westfield subject to the agreement of their own parish priest.
Marriage is subject to the law of the land, and there are legal restrictions on who can get married in a parish church. The Vicar is able to give you information about this.
Funerals. The church is available for the funeral of anyone who has a connection with the community of Westfield. Anyone who lives in the parish at the time of death is entitled to be buried in the churchyard, and those who have been part of the community in the past can be buried here at the discretion of the Vicar. There is a new Garden of Remembrance where ashes can be interred.
